Meandering Press
Meandering Press is one of the projects currently being developed by the Imaginal Institute. As a small, independent press, our goal is to publish three books in 2006, and build the title list by four to six print titles per year after that, while exploring electronic publishing options for additional titles.
Meandering Press Mission
To imaginatively produce and disseminate written and multi-media work and specialty items which celebrate the imagination.
Goals and Objectives
- To create, publish, and retail materials on imagination that are qualitative, entertaining, challenging, including published text (fiction and nonfiction), electronic text, audio and visual recordings, and associated gift items.
- To build an innovative, profitable, sustainable company.
- To commit to sustainable business practices, including green printing and support of other small businesses, particularly independent bookstores and media outlets.
- To bridge the gap between academic and commercial publishing.
- To build a next generation hybrid of book publisher and retailer.
- To explore new technologies in text and multimedia publishing, breaking boundaries while being committed to quality.
- To provide a base of support for creatives and intellectuals working ideas on imagination by providing accessible publishing.
- To create a viable e-commerce website, with a strong, loyal customer base.
- To develop and pursue creative marketing avenues for products.
- To explore and penetrate nontraditional book outlets.
- To emerge as an important small press, making the imaginal accessible to a wide audience.
- To make large enough profit margins to provide ongoing financial support to the non-income producing activities of the Imaginal Institute.
- To bring important, interesting, and engaging books back into print.
- To utilize cutting edge technology to bring small but important books to market.
- To develop cutting edge business models that reflect new dynamics in the publishing industry, gaining wisdom from retail, e-commerce, and multi-media companies.
- To build careful relationships and networks with other presses and businesses engaged in the dissemination of ideas about creativity, myth, poiesis, and imagination.
